If you don’t have the capital to start up a home based business there are some short cuts you can take.  Money is often the main factors that stops people from getting their home based business off the ground. There are ways to make home based businesses a little less expensive.  You just have to take a few short cuts.

One excellent way to cut down on the cost of your home based business start up is leasing equipment.  Leasing equipment that you need is an idea that many home based business owners go with.  This allows you to get computers, copiers, fax machines and other equipment that you need for your business without spending thousands of dollars.  You can lease equipment for a varying amount of time so you will be able to get your home based business off the ground.

Start up your home based business on a part time basis.  Service clients on the weekends and work on invoices and marketing issues for a couple of hours each evening.  Quitting your full time job may not be realistic at this point. However, eventually, after working your home based business on a part time basis for some time you may be able to reduce your hours at your regular job.  Gradually moving into solely relying on your home based business may take a while but at least you will be moving in the right direction.

As a small business owner you should take advantage of any assistance of advice that you can get.  One way to get help with carrying out the duties of your small business is to look for volunteers.  For example, if you are starting up a catering business and have no idea how to build a website, look for a student who is hungry for a chance to try out their web design skills.  Tell the student that if they do a good job there may be paid opportunities coming their way.  They will gladly design you a website for your business.

Use your time wisely. If you have vacation days built up at work take them.  But instead of going somewhere, take the time to sort through information about your business.  If you have a long lunch hour at work, be sure to have your laptop with you.  Get some work for your home based business done while you are there.  Take advantage of free moments and make progress on your business.

Get things you need for your home office at garage sales.  Need a work desk?  Make sure you are on the prowl for garage sales.  Don’t spend money you don’t need to spend.  Get some hand me down office furniture, polish it up and you will have the furniture you need for your home based business.

Drive is very important when it comes to starting a home based business. Although capital is important, at the end of the day, if there is no drive, the business I not successful.  If you truly want to have a home based business and are willing to make sacrifices, you will be successful in your venture.
